Dry Rot Repairs

Picture
This is one of those issues that most people really don’t know about until it actually happens to them. This is a problem that is caused by a fungus that is going to be feeding off of the wood that is in your roof. This type of fungus tends to grow in those damp corners in your roof. When you are attacked by this type of problem the first thing that we are going to need to do is kill off the fungus and then worry about repairs. It may go without saying, but this is one of these issues that you are going to want to handle pretty early. If you allow it to develop it could be a major problem.

What To Look For
If you have white or colored wooden facia or other roofs areas it is usually going to be a lot easier for you to be able to spot the issue. As for the most part, we are going to have brown wood sort of extract if you will bursting from the structure itself. There are actually some cases where you are going to be able to see the fungus developing and growing. This is obviously one of the signs that you should just not ignore.

Kill Off The Fungus
The most important thing in these cases is to be able to asses the situation correctly. A lot of times people will confuse the problem with pretty much any other wood issue. If we were just to go ahead and repaint that is by no means going to fix the problem. On the contrary, it could actually make things worse. When we are able to identify that you, in fact, have that fungal infection we need to handle that first and foremost and then go ahead restore the rest of the area.

Extensive Damage
As we have mentioned these types of problems tend to be progressive so if we catch it a couple of miles down the road in a way that is going to make things really tough on repairs. When we are looking at extensive damage we are going to have to make very important decisions. Especially if the main goal is actually to save the structure. If you are living in a home with this problem we are usually not going to get to the point where we will debate whether repairs are even possible or not. Since it is more likely for you to notice the problems early. So for the most part, this is not a probable scenario.

Prevention
There is not one step that will rid you of these problems for good. There are a couple of simple things that can help though. The good part is they don’t necessarily have to cost you more money. Things like making sure that sprinklers in your home don’t hit this area directly or trying to avoid exposure to moisture all around are the best methods.
